March 15, 2010

Not quite ready for Spring Break 2010 to end? Relive some of the best moments with this hilarious video, which we found over on the Washington Post's Campus Overload blog.

February 26, 2010

Junior Will Graves sprained his ankle Thursday in practice, Roy Williams said at his pre-game press conference Friday.

Williams said he didn't know the extent of Graves' injury yet.

K-ville tents blowing in the wind

February 10, 2010

If you need another reminder for why you wanted to attend UNC and not Duke, here's our video pick of the day, from Duke's student newspaper: A look at all the tents in K-ville, where students are camping out already to get tickets to the March matchup at Cameron Indoor.

Duke columnist reaffirms the rivalry's still strong

February 9, 2010

In a Tuesday column, The Duke Chronicle's Ben Cohen describes some of the things that have changed since the last time Duke beat UNC in men's basketball two years ago. Among them: A John Edwards presidential campaign, Mike Krzyzewski about to head to the Beijing Olympics, Tyler Hansbrough and a ranked UNC team just a year away from a national championship.

Something that hasn't changed?

Hating from the other side of the gender ratio

February 8, 2010

The New York Times article that gave a — let's just say interesting — perspective on the gender ratio at UNC almost exclusively focused on campuses with larger female populations. But just two states south of here, the ratio skews the other way.

Georgia Tech doesn't make it easy to determine the actual gender ratio — but with a little math, it becomes clear that the Yellow Jackets are facing one of the steepest gaps in the nation.

Men make up 79 percent of the undergraduate population, and 72 percent of the entire student body.

Two guys from Ga. Tech decided to rap about their frustrations. Wonder what The New York Times would say about this?

Ira Glass gives the kvetching board a shout-out

February 7, 2010

We've gotten quite a few kvetches about Ira Glass since the public radio host spoke at Memorial Hall on Saturday.

Glass made a plea for students to write him in. "I'd be so proud if I made it into the kvetching board."

"It's such a genius move for a newspaper," Glass said. "Why doesn't the New York Times have that? That's why they're going out of business."

We're glad Glass likes it, but credit for the idea has to go to former Editor Joe Schwartz, who started the weekly feature a few years ago, giving aggrieved roommates, scorned lovers and the generally peeved a place to sound off.

Team 'dives' into snow angels

January 31, 2010

Jenna Moore sent in this video of divers from the UNC swimming and diving team having fun in the snow. Clad only in their swimsuits, the team made snow angels before rushing back inside. Check it out:

NCSU's Technician spoofs the DTH

January 26, 2010

The UNC-NCSU basketball game also marks the annual Technician spoof of The Daily Tar Heel.

This year's Daily Tar Hell, features stories on "Tyler Hansbobo" and a new dress requirement for tailgating. The detail on this is great: It looks just like the regular paper, and they've even copied how we do the weather on the front page. (Their  prediction for today: "It's gonna be rainin' threes if Glaves plays").

Separated at birth?

January 21, 2010

One of our editorial board members first pointed this out on Twitter, but look at how similar Chancellor Holden Thorp and provost candidate Jeffrey Vitter look (Vitter's on the left):

What do you think? Twins separated at birth?
